Journey On Relaxation Technique
I could not have performed this relaxation technique at a better time. This week I have been feeling overwhelmed due to my mom's surgery and the increased need for my assistance. It's been hard to me to find time for myself, my family, grocery shopping, car appointment, school, preparing for a new job etc... Needless to say, this relaxation technique allowed me a few minutes for myself. It never ceases to amaze me the power our minds have over our bodies. During the exercise my body felt extremely heavy and in a complete state of relaxation. It felt great! This technique eased my stress level quite a bit. It's amazing what a few minutes alone with your mind can do for your health!

Hi Janelle, I have done a few breathing exercises in the past but, I always find my mind wondering to something else. It takes a bit of practice. I always found yoga and some tai chi relaxing and helps with my breathing. I sounds like you started this class at a good time. I agree, I have always been very amazed on how much we can control our thoughts and how they affect our bodies. I very very rarely have my tv on in my house, it is always very quiet and calming when I am here. That also helps, there are not distractions. I hope you have a great day!

Cheryl,
ReplyDeleteI'm not one for television either. Actually, we don't have cable and I don't think we ever will. I understand some people have their shows that they must watch, but I find it to be a huge waste of time. There are endless other things I can do to occupy my mind. I've heard from others that most shows are now reality garbage, too. I feel this greatly fuels people's materialistic desire.
Enjoy the day!
Janelle
Hi Janelle, I agree. I go to work and everyone talks about the reality shows on such as, American Idol or Jersy shore. they are a complete waist of time and they rot the brain. I am either reading, cooking, shopping at farmers markets, running doing yoga or something else that has value. I lead a small life but a very valuable one.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday
Janelle,
ReplyDeleteAs I said in my blog, this assignment hit me at the perfect time, too. My son and I had spent four hours in the Arizona sun this morning helping a friend work on their car. When I got home, and settled in to check school assignments, etc, I came to the relaxation one. Well did I need the time I took to calm myself, and mentally 'make' myself relax. I have to raise my hands for the "No watching t.v." club - however I must admit to a weakness for NCIS, having been a Marine. Hope your weekend and upcoming week go well. Cheers, Chris
Hi Janelle,
ReplyDeleteI really didn't think this type of stuff worked but I was proven wrong. This exercise helped me to get over a stress headache and gave me more energy to get my work done. I wonder if this technique will help me to sleep better tonight? I will be posting on my findings.
Hello Janelle,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading what others post I feel kinda of guilty because I do not exercise. I guess because I am so active at work and I walk from one end of the warehouse to the next and I am always lifting heavy stuff, that I feel I get my exercise for the week. So, by the time I get home, I just want to relax and not do anything. By the end of the week I feel it. Plus, I feel that I am too small so when people talk about losing weight, I talk about gaining some. I tried to find my pictures to post but I have so many on the computer I can't find me. :) I just have to take other one. Enjoy your week.
Hi Sonia,
ReplyDeleteI understand where you are coming from, the thought of exercising can seem very unappealing after a long day at work. To help combat this, I exercise before work most of the time. I could very easily be wrong but I sense that you are on the fence about exercising. Have you read information regarding the benefits of both cardiovascular, stretching, and strength training exercises? It's always good to be aware so we can strive for health in mind, body, and spirit. Exercising also does not have to entail losing weight. I've actually gained weight through strength training. For me exercising isn't something I view as a chore. Nearly every morning, I wake up excited to exercise because of the benefits. It center's me. I enter a different state of mind while exercising, focusing solely on pushing my body's comfort zone. Afterward I feel accomplished, relaxed, rejuvenated, and balanced. Have you tried doing yoga after or before work? At one time I was becoming very involved with yoga (and I'm trying to desperately fit it back into my life). After about a week, I noticed a change throughout my body that was quite different than those I have experienced through strength training or cardio. It rounded out my activities very well. My body became loose, more pliable and I felt very in tune with my body's needs. Maybe this would fit into your schedule more? I can't speak for everyone who posted that they exercise but I just wanted to give you a more detailed overview of why I exercise. I wouldn't feel guilty about not exercising, unless it is something you truly want to do but are putting up a mental blockade. Wish you the best!
